Sound familiar?

Out here, the stretch between your house and the nearest blacktop is long, and it wears out faster than anyone can keep up.

  • Washboard ripples shake the truck so hard that whatever is in the cab rattles loose.
  • A spring gully across the lane turns a quick errand into a slow, bumpy crawl.
  • Hauling in another load of rock every year feels like pouring money down a hole.

Local conditions

Hollows, two big lakes and fast rising rivers

Ozark County is steep, wooded country cut by hollows that drain toward Bull Shoals Lake on the west side and Norfork Lake on the east. The North Fork River and Bryant Creek wind through the county, and both can rise in a hurry after a heavy rain. Soils are thin, rocky and full of chert over dolomite, so gravel roads lose their fine material quickly. Many homes sit miles down unpaved county and private roads, some with low water crossings along the way. Summers are hot and sticky, and winter brings repeated freezes that heave any wet spot in a lane.

What we see most in Ozark County

Washboard Ripples

Long runs of gravel develop ripples that rattle every vehicle. Grading helps for a few weeks, then they come right back.

Gullies on the Hills

Runoff cuts channels down the steepest part of a lane. After a few storms, low cars start scraping bottom.

Chert Wearing Through

The local rock breaks down and its fines wash away, leaving loose stones that roll under tires. The road gets a little rougher every year.

Soft Ground in Wet Months

Low spots near creeks hold water and turn to mud in late winter and spring. Heavy trucks sink in and leave deep tracks behind.

The solution

A Lane That Lasts Way Out in the Hills

We know a long drive is part of why you love living this far out, right up until it gets torn apart.

Maybe you have a cabin on a ridge above the water, or a few acres off a county road with no pavement in sight. You have patched it, graded it and hauled rock, and still it slides back to ruts. You deserve a surface that does not need fixing every single spring.

Our family business has spent 15 years laying chip seal and asphalt, and ranch and farm roads are everyday work for us. Each job starts with a free on-site look, honest advice on which surface fits, and ends with a 1 year warranty on what we built.

Let us help you turn that long gravel stretch into a lane you actually enjoy driving.

Benefits

What you get

Covers the Distance

Chip seal suited to long lanes

Chip seal usually makes sense when a drive runs a long way, because it often fits the budget better than hot asphalt on long runs. You get a sealed surface the whole way out, not only near the house.

Less Mud After Storms

A sealed top with planned runoff

Rain runs off a sealed lane instead of soaking in and turning it to soup. That means fewer soft spots after a gully washer.

Easy on Your Vehicles

A firm, even driving surface

No more washboard rattling your truck apart or loose stones cracking the windshield. Your tires, shocks and nerves will feel the change.

How it works

3 simple steps

  1. Step 1

    Tell Us Where You Are

Call (816) 375-1940 or use the form and give us directions. We come out, drive your lane ourselves, and price it in person for free.

  2. Step 2

    Shape, Seal and Roll

We tighten the base, set a crown so rain sheds to the sides, and lay chip seal or asphalt. Then we roll the whole stretch firm.

  3. Step 3

    Drive It Home

Your lane is sealed, quieter under the tires and covered by our 1 year warranty.

Our recommendation

For most properties out here, we lean toward chip seal on long lanes and farm roads, since it seals a lot of ground and grips well on hills. Asphalt paving is a good pick for the last stretch by the house or for a parking area that sees steady traffic. Plenty of owners mix the two, and we are happy to help you plan it.

FAQ

Ozark County questions

Still have questions? Call (816) 375-1940. We pick up.

Do you really come all the way out to Gainesville area properties?+

Yes. We serve Southwest Missouri and are glad to make the drive for a free on-site estimate. Remote roads are a normal part of our work, not a reason to turn a job down.

My lane runs through a creek bottom. Can it be sealed?+

Sometimes. A low spot that goes under water every spring will keep testing any surface, so we look hard at how the water moves there. If it floods often, we will say so plainly rather than sell you something that will not last.

Is chip seal good for a cabin road near Theodosia?+

It is a common pick for lake country roads, because it covers long stretches and gives tires good grip on the hills. It has a rough, stony look instead of the smooth face of asphalt. Many cabin owners like that it fits the woods around them.

What does an Ozark County winter do to a sealed lane?+

Freeze and thaw is hard on any surface, mostly where water gets underneath it. That is why we focus on the base and on getting water off the lane fast. Good drainage is the best defense against winter damage.

Can you seal just the hill on my drive and leave the rest?+

Yes, we can talk about doing the steep section where gravel washes out first. Some owners do the hill now and the flat stretches later. We will help you pick the part that matters most.
