Sound familiar?

Around Pomme de Terre Lake, steep gravel drives and campground roads wash out, rut up and kick dust over everything.

  • Trucks pulling boats spin their tires on the loose climb back up from the water.
  • Summer traffic on campground loops throws dust onto campers, tents and picnic tables.
  • Heavy rain sends gravel sliding down the hill and into the cove.

Local conditions

Lake country on the edge of the plateau

Hickory County is small, hilly and wrapped around water, with Pomme de Terre Lake in the south and an arm of Truman Lake reaching in from the north. The Pomme de Terre River links the two, running north below the dam near Hermitage. Ridges are wooded with oak and hickory, and the soils are thin, rocky clays over limestone and dolomite. Lake lots often drop off fast, so water moves quickly and carries loose gravel with it. Winters bring freeze and thaw, and summers bring heavy weekend traffic to the lake.

What we see most in Hickory County

Steep lake lot drives

Many lake homes sit well below the road, so the drive climbs hard on the way out. Loose gravel on that grade washes away and spins out under tires.

Campground dust and ruts

Busy loops at campgrounds and RV parks grind gravel into powder through the summer. Then fall rains turn the low spots into mud holes.

Trailer turn-ins

Trucks with heavy boat trailers turning in and out wear grooves where the drive meets the road. Those ruts spread a little more every season.

Long, lonely farm lanes

Away from the water, pasture and hay ground sits at the end of long gravel lanes. Keeping that much rock in place takes time and money each year.

The solution

Built for Lake Life

We get it, lake country is hard on a driveway.

Weekend crowds, boat trailers and summer storms all land on the same stretch of gravel. Then you spend part of your time at the lake raking rock or filling holes. That's not why you bought the place.

Benefits

What you get

Easier Climb Out

Firm, sealed surface

A paved or sealed drive gives tires steady grip on the way up from the water. No more backing down to take another run at it.

Cleaner Summers

Chip seal over loose gravel

Sealing the stone keeps it from grinding into dust under steady traffic. Campers and neighbors will notice the difference.

Rain Goes Off, Not Down

Surface shaped for runoff

We shape the drive so water leaves it at the right spots instead of racing down the middle. That protects the drive and the hillside under it.

How it works

3 simple steps

  1. Step 1

    Send us your lake address

Call (816) 375-1940 or use our form, even for a cabin you only visit on weekends. We'll set a weekday time to come out for the free on-site estimate.

  2. Step 2

    Lay the new surface

We prepare the base and the shape, then put down asphalt or chip seal on the plan you approved.

  3. Step 3

Enjoy the lake, not the lane

You pull in and out with ease, the dust settles down, and a 1 year warranty covers the work.

Our recommendation

On a steep lake lot where the drive gets daily use, asphalt paving gives the smoothest, cleanest climb and is easy to keep tidy. For campground loops, RV park roads and long farm lanes, chip seal usually covers more ground for the money and cuts down the dust. We'll look at your grade, drainage and traffic at the free estimate and tell you what we'd do.

FAQ

Hickory County questions

Still have questions? Call (816) 375-1940. We pick up.

Can you pave a steep driveway down to a lake lot?+

Often, yes. Steep drives need a firm base and a plan for runoff so the surface doesn't wash or slide. We'll look at the grade and the soil and tell you honestly what will work.

Is chip seal a good fit for a campground or RV park?+

Chip seal is a common choice for campground loops and park roads because it covers a lot of ground and cuts down dust. Tight turns where big rigs swing around need extra thought. We'll walk the loops with you at the estimate.

Do you serve properties near Truman Lake too?+

Yes. We work around both lakes and across the rest of the county. Just give us the address or the nearest road.

Can you work on my cabin while I'm not there?+

We'll want to meet you or talk it through at the estimate, but after that many owners don't need to be on site for the work. We'll agree on the details ahead of time.

What's the best season for paving a lake property here?+

Warm, dry weather is best for both asphalt and chip seal. Spring and fall weekdays are often easier for lake properties, since summer traffic is heavier. We'll help you pick a time at the free estimate.
